well i got out yesterday
after giving everyone else spots and fishing reports it was time to see for myself what was going on.
hooked up the boat, loaded it with bait, and took my father inlaw, his brother, and my father inlaws friend
launched out of parkertown ramp and headed to the middle grounds for some flukin.
set up on a ledge for about an hour and only caught a few sand sharks, pulled up the lines and headed to holgate, as soon as we dropped our lines in 25ft of water everyone was hooked up on the fluke, including me, near the end of the first drift i caught the first keeper a 19" fattie.
we did many more drifts catching a couple of dozen shorts and those oh so close fish we had to put back.
things slowed and then made another move behind beach haven at the orange tank and started drifting again in 25ft of water again catching another couple of dozen shorts and one more 19" keeper.
the boys where fish catching machines today, we used all the bait we had in the boat, a pint of killies, a box of squid, and a bag of spearing.
but the last drift of the day was the best. coming to the end of our drift my father inlaw says he thinks he hooked the bottom, so i start the boat to pull up on the line for retreival and the line starts heading away from the boat before i can get there, next the reel drag is singing with what he has hooked, so now i am in chase mode to see what the heck we have on the end of the line, well 20 minutes later up comes up a monster cow nosed ray, what a site to see and one heck of a fight.
father inlaw was whipped after that so we headed in for the day.
we ended the day with 2 fluke at 19" and 40-50 short fluke and a monster cow nose, i got a tell you it was hard throwing back 18" fluke yesterday, fearing the shrinkage and a fine.
